Rhode Island Red (RIR).
-
Another one of the most popular backyard breeds. The RIR has been around for a while and was once the most popular breed of chickens for the home acreage. They were adored for their fast growth rates, and remarkable dual purpose abilities. Hens can lay about 260-280+ eggs a year. Males reach 9 lbs, and females 6-7 lbs at maturity.
-
RIR are part of the American Class.
-
Physical Characteristics: large single or Rose comb, long broad back, deep red (Mahogany) feathers, and yellow legs.

-
Monkman's Poultry currently raises both Single Comb and Rose comb varieties.

-
our Rosecomb variety was purchased directly from Kathy Stevenson in Sept. 2018
