The Lavender Gene

The Lavender Gene is quickly becoming another favourite for backyard poultry enthusiasts. Also known as Self blue by some due to the fact that it breeds true.

Lavender (Lav) is recessive to the base colour black. This means that a bird needs two copies of (Lav) to express it visually.

Lavender birds are closely breed to black birds to help keep the colour vibrant and prevent fading. Lavender bred to black results in 100% splits.

Splits are birds who carry one copy of (Lav) but vsually look black. Breeding splits together or to a Lavender bird will help to bring out more lavender offspring in future generations.
