Sussex

 

  • Another one of the most popular backyard breeds. The Sussex has been around for a while and is known for being a good producer of meat and eggs. They were adored for their fast growth rates, and remarkable true dual purpose abilities. Hens can lay about 260-280+ eggs a year. Males reach 9 lbs, and females 6-7 lbs at maturity. 

 

  • Sussex are part of the English Class.

 

  • Physical Characteristics: large single comb,  long broad back, tail carried at 45 degrees above the horizontal, clean white body except for in the hackle and tail feathers.
