The Mottling Gene

The Mottling Gene is one that results in an absolutely stunning bird. The contrast of the white spot at the edge of each feather against a solid background colour is a sight to behold.

Mottle (mo) is a recessive gene. This means that a bird needs two copies of (mo) to express it visually.

Mottled birds can be bred together to keep mottling in all the offspring, or they can be bred to a non-mottled bird to results in splits .

Splits are birds who carry one copy of (mo) but vsually look like a solid colour. Breeding splits together or to a Mottled bird will help to bring out more Mottled offspring in future generations.
